Fantastic Dining Experience
We always had Miller and Carter down as the best steaks around, but for my wife’s birthday we decided to try something a bit further afield but still local to us. Brettingtons came up as somewhere that fitted the bill and so we booked a table for 8. First impressons a re nice, a little bar in the reception area can keep you watered until your table becomes available, some of our guests had to wait and so had drinks there. We were all seated when the others arrived. Nice airy space under a large roof lantern, although chilly outside the restaurant was warm and welcoming.Straight into starters, I personally had the spicy beef which was amazingly good, a lovely thick sauce drenched a pretty healthy portion of fried beef strips. Chewy and uncsious. One guest had the soup, another the salmon and another the mac and cheese – all were delighted with the standard of food. Everything came out timely and piping hot.Mains next, steak all round of course with a few bits of Lobster to liven it all up. I had the Angus sirloin which was one of the best steaks I’ve had in my half century plus of dining out. Succulent, juicy, cooked to perfection with a proper pepper sauce with a hint of boozy brandy running through it, a proper portion of sauce too, not a minute ramakin but a pot with enough to dip everything in. The meat itself didn’t contin a single morsel of gristle or fat, 100% edible meat. Just lovely. I checked out the steaks all round and all were cooked exactly as requested, bang on the money. Lobster was nice and moist, flavoursome, the only complaint being there wasn’t a lot of it but the creature was of a decent size and full of meat where you’d expect it. I certainly recommend the truffle chips, you pay a bit more but you also get about twice the amount of chips compared to the standard portion and boy are they tasty. The most moorish thing I think I’ve had for any years. The steaks were a hit all round, bravo! Not many of us had puddings but what came out was really nice. Sticky toffee for me that was rich and also had a nice cinamon flavour running through it. Thick double cream and caramel pieces. Others had the Eton stack and ice cream which were all well recieved. Wines were good, Moretti on tap is a winner. This was an excellent dining experience for us all. Yes it was pricey but you pay for what you get in this world, there’s always the Harvester up the road if you want microwaved ready meals. This was on the cusp of real fine dining, well presented, prepared and delivered food. Service was top notch, couldn’t fault the staff, we had a single server and then others pitched in to brings the meals out quickly. Whilst I could probably find fault with things, it would be ridiculous nit picking because on the whole and for the most part, Brettingtons have got it right and we’ll definitely be back and to recommend it to freinds and neighbours and that is always the best advertising.Thank you.https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/ShowUserReviews-g635679-d8307235-r873748036-Brettington_s_Steak_and_Lobster_House-Rochester_Kent_England.html#
